Dear AKCP,
We have some questions regarding your Swing Handle Cabinet locks (SHL). First, is it possible to connect and setup the SHL on our SP+ (SPX+) unit without the need for your AKCPro DCIM software?
Secondly, what is the maximum number of SHL’s that can be connected to our SPX+ and also the maximum cable run length?
Thank you,

Hello AKCP Customer,
Yes, you can. The Access Control feature also works on the SP+ devices without the need for the APS software.
Please follow the steps below.
1) Disable the “Server Access Control Sync” in Settings => Server Integration.
2) Go to the Access Control pages and configure the users and access permissions, schedules.
The concept is the same as the APS Access Control so you can check the “Card and User management” section (page 25-44) of our SHL manual on our support portal.
Regarding the maximum SHL’s per device and extension cables.
There is no software or hardware limitations, however we recommend connecting no more than 12 SHL’s per device. We can’t guarantee the system stability beyond 12. For example if more thank 12 cabinet doors are opened at the same time.
We do not recommend using more than the 5m cable length stated in the SHL manual. Please keep in mind the longer the cable is the higher the resistance. CAT5 cable are thin wires, and high resistance over long lengths. This means when the motor turns on the swing handle, it draws a certain voltage and current, if the voltage can’t be sustained it causes issues, such as lock jams.
If you use a good high quality, low capacitance cable that doesn’t provide much resistance, then longer than 5m is possible, up to 12m maybe possible.
For more details on the actual installation and setup of the SHL’s, please make sure you check our website support portal for downloading the product manual.
Thanks,
Best regards,
