Pinpoint the Leak: Mapping a Locate Rope Water Sensor in AKCP Quicklime

Water leaks are a data center’s worst nightmare, particularly when they happen out of sight beneath raised floors or above drop ceilings. While a standard spot sensor tells you if there is a leak, a Locate Rope Water Sensor tells you exactly where it is along its length.

However, knowing a leak is occurring at the “24-foot mark” of a 100-foot rope isn’t very helpful during an emergency unless that physical distance is visually tied to your actual room layout. In this Quicklime DCIM video tutorial, we demonstrate how to draw and map this specialized sensor directly onto your facility’s digital twin.

Why Map the Rope?

When a locate rope detects water, it sends an alert with a specific distance measurement. By mapping the exact path the rope takes around your server racks and CRAC units in Quicklime, the software can highlight the exact spot on your 2D map or 3D digital twin. This takes the guesswork out of the equation and directs your response team straight to the source of the puddle.

How to Draw the Rope on Your Floorplan

While the video walks through the precise clicks, mapping a rope sensor requires a slightly different process than dropping a standard temperature sensor onto your map.

Open Your Floorplan
Access the Maps workspace

Log into your Quicklime interface and navigate to the map where the physical rope sensor is installed. Ensure you are in “Edit” mode so you can modify the layout.

Locate the Sensor in the Tree
Find the connected port

In the device tree on the left-hand panel, expand the base unit (such as your sensorProbe+) that the rope sensor is plugged into. Find the specific port labeled for the locate rope sensor.

Draw the Rope Path
Trace the physical layout

Drag the sensor from the tree onto the map. Because it is a rope, Quicklime will allow you to draw its path rather than just dropping a single pin. Click your mouse at every corner or turn to accurately trace how the rope snakes around your room’s perimeter or under the racks.

Complete the Drawing
Lock in the mapping

Once you have traced the entire length of the physical rope, double-click to end the drawing line. Save your map configuration.

Once mapped, your Quicklime dashboard will be able to visually pinpoint a leak the moment the rope gets wet, saving critical minutes in a water-related emergency. Be sure to watch the full video above to see the tool in action.
