AKCP Data Center Monitoring in Alaska
The state of Alaska Department of Transport and Public Affairs are using AKCP sensorProbe8 base units with temperature and humidity sensors to monitor the environmental conditions of their server room. “We have serious issues with our air conditioning units.” said Jeremey Hustman, Systems Programmer for the Dept. of Transport and Public Affairs. Situated in Juneau, Alaska. In the wintertime when the server room starts overheating a “snake” is deployed to drag cold air in from outside. During summer months, when this is not possible, the snake is used to attempt to suck out the hot air. The air conditioning unit often gets overworked to the point that it shuts itself down.
The AKCP sensorProbe8 (SP8) environmental monitoring system allows them to keep on top of the situation, be alerted when temperatures are reaching critical levels, and react accordingly. Data from the sensors is made available on their in-house custom dashboards by way of SNMP get commands sent to the SP8.
